Google claims the AMD Ryzen5 3600 is superior, yet I reviewed gaming tests comparing it to the Intel i5-9400f, which showed higher FPS.

The R5 3600 generally performs better than a 9400f, though this can vary depending on the specific game. Certain older games (like Starcraft 2) may not run as smoothly on Ryzen and could be more stable on an i5 processor.

The R5 3600 offers several advantages in total:
1. It provides double the thread count (6 cores vs 6 cores with 6 threads on the i5).
2. The AM4 platform supports a wider range of upgrades. With a current 500 series chipset board (B550 or X570), you can upgrade to newer Ryzen CPUs, and there are options extending to a 16 core 32 thread processor in the existing 3000 series. On the Intel side, the 9000 series remains the last-gen supported on that socket, so upgrades would be limited to higher-end models like the 8 core 9900K.
3. The AM4 platform is more recent and includes PCIe Gen 4 support, which benefits next-generation graphics cards and faster storage devices—this requires a 500 series chipset board.

If you prefer an Intel CPU, opting for the latest 10th-gen i5 would be ideal, as it matches Ryzen performance and offers better upgrade potential.

Usually the Ryzen 5 3600 comes out ahead over time because of its higher thread count. However, currently they’re pretty much the same in gaming terms. Keep in mind when checking benchmarks, it’s important to see what RAM settings both CPUs are using, as that can really affect the outcome.

The 3600 is certainly a superior long-term investment. You're considering gtx1650 reviews together with that CPU? I think the 3600 offers greater flexibility in terms of motherboards, allowing you to customize your build more effectively due to the wider price range and compatibility options.
