I recently noticed I wasn’t using vendor drivers anymore after reinstalling Windows 10. Only a few essential ones remained—Soundblasfer for my sound card, AmBx for gaming lights, and even the Nvidia driver would auto-install during OS setup. I also used a RAID0 for my boot drive and never needed Intel IRST drivers at installation. Was anyone else aware of this?

Windows has improved significantly with device drivers. They've been verified by Microsoft, and I wouldn't suggest swapping them out if your setup runs smoothly. Besides GPU drivers, they receive frequent updates mainly to boost gaming performance. It's wise to download the newest versions directly from Nvidia or AMD.

Windows offers many useful drivers now. My laptop comes with functional Bluetooth right away on Windows 10, but locating the proper driver online isn’t easy. I’d avoid the built-in GPU driver since it might lack necessary updates.

win10 successfully matched what Linux had already achieved several years back: setting up all required drivers for your hardware, even when you lacked Ethernet support or didn’t have dedicated driver disks.
