ActionTec MI424WR. Back when I had one, it was a 'router'. The device I connected WILL work to send wireless signal to different systems. Actually, I have that exact router. The old Verizon cable going from that router to my PC... you plug that into the ethernet switch. Then from the switch, one wire each goes to both of your PCs.

Well, finally I'm thanking you so much for your message—I'm going to start ordering from Amazon and finish getting these things.

Do I really need another ethernet cord like this too? Could someone help me find one? I just might need about six inches, sure, but not longer.

One wire runs from the router to the switch. One more wire goes from the switch to each PC. Depending on how long the wires are, you can buy a few different brands of cat5e ethernet cables here: one link to the router and another for the PCs. You might also need some extra switches if your setup is big or if you want to connect multiple computers directly without using the central hub (the switch).

I mean, do you want me to pick the third choice instead of just using a 5-foot cord for 1.99 so that's all good right?

5 feet isn't that long to be short. However, you really do need the ethernet switch connected there, plus all those cables to link up every device.

I agree, so I could use a 6 to 10 foot cord and actually only need one more internet cable because I already have ONE connected from my router to my computer. So all I really need is just ONE more to plug into the other port and to my wife's computer. Is that right? The last thing-As mentioned, I have a Netgear Wireless-N Dual Band USB stick attached to my wife's computer. Her speed is about 80 megabits per second for downloads and 889 megabits per second for uploads. On my computer, which is hard-wired to the internet, my speeds are about 84 megabits per second for downloads and 91.95 megabits per second for uploads. Do you think that changing this wireless stick to a wired connection with this new ethernet switch will make much of a difference? Please advise.

Currently, your computer has one cable coming out of the router going to a new switch. Then, from that switch, you need another cable for every single PC. So in total, you need three cables. You already have one, so now you just need two more. Using wires is usually better than using WiFi. Try it yourself and see!

So, I could use a single wire coming out of another port on my ActinTek router.
