You can operate on dual-core processors, but Sophos requires 4GB of RAM, whereas PFSense functions efficiently with less memory.

no problem, there is a bit of a learning curve for both, I think sophos is easier, but there should be some good you tube videos to get you to where you need to go

You're comfortable with the GUI, right? It might take some time to get used to, but both approaches have their pros—PC or HAP are both solid options.

I'd prefer PFSense because it offers many capabilities and is available for personal home use at no cost.

Considering the D-link Dfl-210, Edgerouter Er-x, SYMANTEC SGS 360, and Soho Apl31-0b9, I understand they’re older models, but staying within my budget is important.
