I need assistance with your internet connection.
You're asking for clarification. The issue began in October 2018, but no one I know has encountered it. Most of my family and friends are using version 3.0.
An alternative choice would be buying a modem from their approved selection, if available. All the information I’ve found about the 3.0 hub suggests it’s not very good.
What internet plan are you using? Based on your usage, speeds seem adequate. You have 125mbps and stream multiple devices while maintaining low latency and no packet loss. You’re hesitant to change your PC for testing—would a different cable or a friend’s setup work? You’re open to checking ISP modem options if needed, but you’re unsure how much improvement is possible through forums.
If you're experiencing only a single wireless disconnect and sporadic wired issues, it might point to a cable problem that needs replacing. Daily disconnections on Wi-Fi are normal and shouldn't trigger alarms. Even in my environment with an AP spaced 50-75 feet apart, I still see DCs moving frequently. On my mobile devices at home, I occasionally get wireless DCs when using a strong signal. For wireless, I’m not concerned and suggest replacing the LAN cable. Just replace it with a new one and secure the ends with tape if needed—this will remove the old wire while installing the new one.
Start with the basics. That local IP address you’re hiding? Completely normal. There’s no need to conceal it. Also, ISP modems are generally unreliable—they’ll always be that way. Unless you’re okay with slow speeds and frustrating connectivity, stick to your own device instead of relying on what your provider offers. If you really don’t want internet, go ahead and disconnect. The smartest choice is to purchase a router and set your ISP’s provided modem into bridge mode.
It's not just once a day, almost every hour (commonly multiple times within an hour) we get massive ping and packet loss spikes on both wireless and wired. I can't remove any cables in the wall without messing with some terms my provider made my parents sign so I'll get the engineer to look at them. The router isn't the problem here, it's been replaced. I've also never had a problem with this router for the 2/3 years I've had it before so why would it just start now. They're the most common ISP here in Ireland and literally all my friends and family have this box and it's pretty good, never any ping issues or any disconnections. Only these spikes that i started getting 4 weeks ago (nobody I know has a similar problem) . The engineers have even said they haven't seen it before so I'm almost certain there's a break in the cable somewhere. I can promise you it's not router related.
