kinda just wanted to come back to talk abt my issues with my old 12-13 year old PC its an LGA775 socket its a Dell inspiron 560 from 2010 it has a Intel Pentium E6700 CPU which is slow I have 16gb of DDR3 1333 MHz ram and a GigaByte GT 730 now sometime around september i decided to finally use it again and it started giving me beep codes which usually isnt good but i ignored them but what do you know 3 days later i start having issues such as me not being able to get past the American megatrends screen and it gave me errors such as Cmos Checksum Error and keyboard failure and no matter how many times i clicked the F1 button and the F2 to get into bios i couldnt get past the megatrends screen eventually i started troubleshooting until one day it didnt want to post anymore it just gave me a black screen. can someone give me a solution to this please now also i decided to buy a Core2 Quad Q9550 to put into this machine to see if it might be a CPU problem as of right now im just waiting for it to ship

I would fully simplify and restructure it, giving everything a fresh start and swapping the battery. However, considering its age, something within the system might be failing or shutting down.

I believe I overloaded it by adding more RAM than it supports right now. It seems the Dell Inpiron 560 only handles 8GB instead of the 16GB it might have offered, which could have damaged my CPU.

It would be strange if the CPU failed due to too much RAM, especially seeing others with similar setups using an E5700.

You need to refresh the BIOS settings for the 16G model to ensure compatibility

Could your motherboard be failing due to its age?

It might not be damaged. The issue could be resolved by removing the BIOS battery, disconnecting from power, pressing the start button several times, then reinserting the battery and plugging in. With just 8GB of RAM, this might work.

You might be focusing on the wrong parts. The issue seems to be with the motherboard and CPU, not just the RAM. Even with 8GB of RAM, hardware problems can still affect keyboard functionality.

CMOS battery DEAD is what most people overlook in an old system throwing post errors. First & Foremost - Replace the battery, it's a 2032 type 3.2V battery. But do address the issue of RAM as posted above, someone mentioned updating the Bios.
