The lower level of propriety in consoles and the adoption of more common hardware such as the Xbox One makes it simpler for developers. I think the upcoming Xbox and PS5 will follow this pattern. My view is that the new Xbox (officially Scarlett) will run on x86 architecture, include an SSD and greater RAM. Three aspects developers should be able to use more effectively than in earlier generations.

The other part to think about, that I haven't seen mentioned yet it optimization for hardware. It's a lot easier to optimize for consoles than PC. If you are making a game for XBONE, there is only 1 set of hardware you have to account for, 2 if you count the PRO. Same with the PS4 and PS4Pro. WIth PC, there is limitless combinations that each user can make. They have to make the PC game more general to run on more general hardware. They can just optimize it for the same CPU, 12 gigs of ram and the same GPU every time and make the most out of it. Much easier to do IMO.
Do people still believe Star Citizen might be released? I often see updates about the money collected and wonder who is still supporting this project.
Those who genuinely care and are excited about the technology are at least the ones who invest the most.
I hope they do well. But by this stage, I wouldn't hold my breath for it being delivered or meeting the excitement it's generated over the last ten years.
The hype is on the part of people striving for controversy and clicks lol. The hardcore players I've spent a little time with back when I last played it seemed pretty content. Optimistic for the future, excited for coming updates, but not spitting hype and unrealistic shit all over the place. It's satisfied it's target playerbase thus far, and I don't see any reason why it wouldn't continue doing so.
Disclaimer: I supported the original Kickstarter with a basic starter package but haven’t made any micro transactions or contributed further funds to the project.
Whether it will meet initial expectations remains uncertain, but I keep an eye on development (typically just keeping up with major updates and the yearly event that always brings a big patch). I’m confident the game will eventually be completed.
They’re making consistent and reliable progress, with occasional significant advancements.
The latest update added many core end-game features. I anticipate they’ll begin expanding solar system options in 2020.
There’s still considerable work and refinement left—likely another 1.5 to 2 years of development time.
I believe it's a good idea today, especially since MS is planning to release on PC for Windows. Modern consoles are much closer to PC, making the port simpler. It will be even better with the new consoles because the hardware is superior.
