I just received a used AMD Lenovo Thinkpad L14 Gen 3, but it keeps shutting down unexpectedly.
I just acquired a used AMD L14 Gen 3, connected it to AC power and turned it on. Before Windows could show the setup screen, it shut down immediately. I tried booting from a backup USB, but that also stopped. When I entered diagnostics, the battery was at just 1% and the battery test indicated it needed at least 10% before proceeding. After charging it up to 10%, it asked me to confirm, and then it powered off right away.
I’m really worried this isn’t another faulty L14, since I recently returned a Gen 2 Intel model that would shut down immediately after turning it on—spinning the fan at full speed and getting a fan error. Anyone know what could be going wrong? Could it be because the battery was completely drained when it arrived (even though it’s plugged in), or is there another issue I should check before starting it up? I’m struggling to get an OS running before it shuts down, and I can’t risk trying a BIOS update right now.
Removing the battery while keeping the device connected may cause it to operate, depending on the setup.
