I just assembled my new PC and am having trouble installing the CPU chipset.
I just completed assembling my PC yesterday. After installation, I checked for AMD chipset support and was led to their site to download drivers. Once downloaded, I ran them but only saw basic GPU info and the CPU details were minimal. I tried AMD Adrenaline to install Ryzen Master, thought maybe the chipset could be added there, but it wouldn’t launch after installation. I removed it and looked for community help, finding someone else who used a similar tool and shared their screen showing updated CPU chips and driver versions. They mentioned they had to uninstall the AMD suite first and then download the chipset from the motherboards site. After installing it, the system stuck during compatibility checks and required a reboot in safe mode for over two hours without changes. In short, the AMD Adrenaline setup got the GPU drivers but failed to install the CPU ones. The latest chipset from my motherboards site doesn’t seem to recognize the CPU at all. I’m worried it might be due to a loose cooler or some compatibility issue. Anyone else facing similar problems? I’m planning to reinstall Windows 11 and use MSI Driver Utility, but it only appears once during OS installation.
So just an update, in case anyone has the same issue I updated the BIOS to latest Re-installed windows 11 Pro ( local account ) Sat and waited for the MSI driver utility to appear ( after a reboot ) Unchecked some of the bloatware from the utility Successfully installed the chipset through the MSI driver update utility To make sure the issue was resolved I downloaded and manually installed the same chipset bundle that was failing before... and it worked! What I did before, that may have gotten in the way: Bios had not been updated prior to windows install Ran windows updates first ( which installs barebone outdated / generic drivers ) -> and rebooted a few times Installed AMD adrenaline ( at this point I think it was borked ) Installed ryzen master ( broken )
That seems quite bothersome, but good news—MSI offers a BIOS setting to turn it on or off. Even when enabled, I couldn’t restore it after clicking cancel on the first pop-up, though. I also saw a detailed ThioJoe video about startup programs and how they can be hidden, which might help if you’re interested. Just make sure it’s not a setting buried in the BIOS.
Thanks. I'll look into it. I'm aware of selective startup and services, but some items aren't listed there. Even the scheduled tasks. For example, this Windows app I downloaded to remap my keyboard for testing—since the print screen button doesn't copy to the clipboard. Turns out it won't work with any generic keyboard. It's a Microsoft program and must be hiding somewhere in Windows.
