You recently installed a 1 TB SSD and placed it in your PC. It’s the second drive (DSmile, separate from the Windows partition. You set it up and formatted using a tutorial on YouTube. When you check your file explorer, it shows 910 GB free out of 931 GB, but the SSD itself appears empty. The disk manager displays a 21 GB gap. Why does this happen? How can you resolve the discrepancy?

SSD makers base their calculations on a 1000 MB increment, while Windows relies on the standard 1024 MB per GB. The accurate measurement should use 1 GiB instead of Gigabyte. Manufacturer: 1 TB equals 1,000 billion bytes. Windows: 1 trillion divided by 1024 three times equals roughly 931 GiB. Adjustments often come from file systems like NTFS, which require extra space for metadata—typically 1-3%. Hidden files such as recovery data may also appear if hidden files are enabled.
