Higher detail means the GPU can display more information. Changing from 1600x900 to 1920x1080 will reduce performance (though improve quality). If you move from 900p, expect 5-50% slower frames, depending on the game and hardware. Lowering the resolution is an option, but it would also decrease visual clarity.
