I reside in Los Angeles with Spectrum as my internet service. I recently upgraded to a 1 gigabit connection, but I wondered if I could purchase a separate modem to boost my Wi-Fi coverage since the new setup doesn’t reach many parts of my home. They mentioned they only support one modem model for 1 gigabit at the moment. Before switching to Netgear range extenders, I managed to get about 1 bar for my doorbell and garage cameras. Now I’m curious—does this restriction really apply? Are there other solutions to improve my Wi-Fi reach? Thanks in advance.

You can't switch the modem, but you can change the router. I'm not an expert on configuring this, but you might connect a router to the existing modem and turn off the router inside it. Personally, I prefer Homeplugs—devices that tap into the electrical grid to deliver internet to household outlets.

That's fine... they don't back them up if you have concerns, but you're permitted to use them. That's what a KPN mechanic in the Netherlands said.

The 1Gbit plan might have unique requirements, possibly making the vendor list for third-party compatible modems irrelevant. It’s unclear if there’s a special aspect of the 1Gbit plan affecting compatibility. You should be able to choose your own modem, but I’m not sure based on my experience.
