I recently installed an HP Compaq DX7400 with a C2Q Q6600, 2GB of DDR2 800MHz RAM and an MS-7352 motherboard. I placed my old GT740 GPU inside and tried to upgrade the memory, but only about 2.7GB are working. I suspect the problem might be related to the BIOS settings. Someone can help clarify this.

Restart the device, then check the connections.

Thank you for your feedback. It seems the issue might be related to the BIOS, but I can't locate the latest versions.

You attempted to fix the issue by rearranging components and testing with fewer sticks, yet it still limits itself to 2.7GB.

Use an eraser to gently rub the memory surface. Apply contact cleaner to the slot for cleaning. This issue often occurs with older memories due to a thin oxidation film on the contact area.

I tried everything else but nothing worked. Used contact spray, eraser, and maximized the slots with tissue. It doesn’t seem like dirt or oxidation is the problem—maybe the hardware is faulty. The BIOS still shows all 8GB of RAM and Windows is running properly.

Ah well, it seems the mobile device is likely broken. Not unexpected given its age.

Verify your window version—it might be a 32-bit setup. To access the full 8GB, you’ll need a 64-bit version.
