I have 5.3GB available from a total of 8GB.
I recently installed an HP Compaq DX7400 with a C2Q Q6600, 2GB of DDR2 800MHz RAM and an MS-7352 motherboard. I placed my old GT740 GPU inside and tried to upgrade the memory, but only about 2.7GB are working. I suspect the problem might be related to the BIOS settings. Someone can help clarify this.
I tried everything else but nothing worked. Used contact spray, eraser, and maximized the slots with tissue. It doesn’t seem like dirt or oxidation is the problem—maybe the hardware is faulty. The BIOS still shows all 8GB of RAM and Windows is running properly.
Ah well, it seems the mobile device is likely broken. Not unexpected given its age.
Verify your window version—it might be a 32-bit setup. To access the full 8GB, you’ll need a 64-bit version.
