I have a friend who has an i3-12100 processor. It uses LGA 1700, so it should work just fine for now, right? Maybe you suggested something better like a 13th gen one, but I'll check what options are available first. Thanks so much for the advice! I feel a lot more hopeful than before 😅 I opened a ticket on an international site and think I will avoid the local customer support, just to be safe. But I'll see what happens.
UPDATE: I will receive a i3-13100f, in couple days, however I've done a bit of tests today: I tried again a W10 image. And thats the weird thing, it doesn't crash on W10, but it does in W11. (always within 1:30-2min frame) I'm so confused. I tried a quick google search but nothing yet (will continue to search). Is my case unique? PC is fine, fully working, in W10. wtf? But as soon as it boots on W11, it freezes. wtf? Any ideas? Thats what Intel support told me, I tried, but no success (the bios settings), for reference: He didn't mention a refund, could I still ask for it? Or it's not a thing anymore? Since the CPU works on W10 system, and I would have to send the CPU to Intel, I don't know if its the right call to send it. over. Right now I'm just waiting for the i3 and I just want to see if my PC freezes also in W11 with a different cpu. Apart from that, does anyone have any ideas/advices that I should try? Thank you in advance
UPDATE : I switched with a i3-13100F and on Windows 11, it does not freeze past 1:30/2:00. Finally... (hopefully) I feel like it was really the CPU. What kind of tests should I run just to make sure? Will also update Intel about this, and hope for a refund, so instead of waiting for the replacement to ship, I can just buy it right away by myself... but don't know if I should trust 13th/14th gen again... or just buy like 12th gen i9... thoughts? Also thanks you very much for the suggestions so far @geofelt @logainofhades 🙏🙏🙏
Hey Ivans33! I'm having a similar issue with my i7 13700K. Sometimes, after just a few hours or even more, my whole computer freezes and I have to keep holding down the power button to shut it down. Is your new CPU working fine? Can you tell me if that was actually the problem?
hi there! yes, i confirm that the problem was definitely in the processor. i got my 13100 for short time and never had any crashes. Then I swapped it out with a 13900kf and everything is working great again. Had to reply quick because i know what you're feeling right now 😂 intel support said yes, it was actually a bad CPU! lucky break for me
Thanks so much for getting back to me! It first happened about two days ago. I'm going to test out a brand-new CPU and hope that solves the problem too.
There is a terrible problem because it makes you feel worried since you don't know why it freezes completely. Honestly, I was almost ready to buy a new power supply or motherboard just in case it wasn't the processor causing everything. This part also feels strange: if you try running it in safe mode, it never crashes there. That's kind of misleading, so people get tricked into thinking that's why it happens. There aren't too many chances to test this properly. I would say the main reason for the freeze was probably just updating or having Windows 11 on your PC. It worked fine way over a year ago on Windows 10, but maybe it wasn't stable with Windows 11. If you have any questions about how to fix it, I'm ready to help if we can test some things together. Good luck and hope the CPU is actually the problem so we get this fixed soon!
I've been using this PC for about two years, always had Windows 11 installed and never touched it except for cleaning or fixing the BIOS and updating windows. It was working great all along. But now, suddenly for no reason, it stopped working two days ago. Before I ask my friend to send me back a new part (the CPU), I'll try some tests first, too. Maybe this happens when I turn on in safe mode? Thanks.
