Likely the edges and the overall look resemble a contemporary UI similar to modern Windows 8. The preference is for the older Windows 7 style.

Sure, I get it. It's a small detail, but I appreciated seeing which core was being used. I know it's located in the perf manager, but I tend to skip opening it whenever possible.

Google likely found the solution for you. Open Task Manager, go to Performance, then CPU, and right-click to adjust the graph to Logical processors.
