I found a fascinating thing about my CPU.
I reclaimed my existing CPU, the i5 3450 from a prebuilt alienware PC I got as a gift in 2012. When components began to fail, I had to replace nearly everything nearby, which is how I’ve managed ever since. The i5 3450 is a 4C,4T locked chip with a base speed of 3.1 GHz and a boost clock of 3.5 GHz. Now, however, I’ve found something quite interesting. There’s software that can push this particular CPU to a limited overclock. Those extra few MHz are a big plus and made my day.
I find it really funny that I’m hoping this setup will crash completely. I need it to fail so badly I can have a solid reason to upgrade. As long as I keep saving or investing, my mind won’t let me spend more. I want it to shut down completely. But it doesn’t. Ivy Bridge is still running and just keeps improving for me. Now I’m stuck between using Black Friday to buy a Ryzen 2600x for $260 or swapping out the old RAM in my current system for $40.
