Hey there, if you glance at my signature you’ll notice I own a basic laptop. But I also have a PS3 and have spent about six years gaming on it, so I’m pretty familiar with the controllers. Recently, while trying one of those free-to-play chrome shooters, I realized I struggled a lot. I had trouble keeping both hands in sync and often mistyped keys on the keyboard. I also remember using FIFA on an old desktop PC before my PS3, which was great, but now I’m not as confident playing on my laptop. Could it be that I haven’t used a PC keyboard in a while? Or maybe playing with a proper keyboard on a desktop feels more natural and comfortable for me? Thanks a lot for your advice! I really hope I can enjoy gaming again on Windows (though my laptop might only handle Counter Strike at low 5 FPS, haha).

The same outcome would occur if I limited myself to consoles; it’s just something people get used to. It took me about 2–3 weeks to adjust again after spending a whole year on the Xbox 360. Take a look at your desk or chair and see how you sit—most of me prefers a straight back.

You'll become comfortable with it through practice and patience. I used to play PS2 nonstop for hours, but the graphics were too basic. Eventually, I switched to PC, which offered better visuals, more detailed textures, and the option to boost resolution. I didn’t want to invest in a PS3 or X360 because modifying games isn’t feasible there.

It was my first PC game that I conquered—Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare on a rough Compaq machine with a terrible touchpad. I managed to beat it. It was intense, but I did it. I’d trade a decent $10 keyboard and mouse for one that only works when you play games. It really improves the experience.

Avoid handling your controller at all. You're likely not accustomed to it since the accuracy and control from a PC far surpass that of a controller—though sensitivity is where controllers excel. It wasn't long before I adapted to using KBM instead of a controller in FPS games; compared to the controller, I can execute more refined actions faster. The KBM outperforms the lelbox360 in most aspects except racing games. Initially, I felt quite awkward with it, but after getting used to it, it became much smoother. I recently tested using a console and quickly realized I was confused and struggled to aim properly. Avoid touching an N64 controller now—those days are behind you.

Are you attempting to use a laptop keyboard with a touchpad? That’s not a recommended approach. When I began playing PC games, I struggled with the mouse and keyboard, but after a short time I realized they were better for FPS titles. Just give them a few weeks and you’ll see improvement.

It took six years to feel at ease with your PS3. Why do you expect it’ll be easier with a different system? You might end up spending more time adjusting, particularly for fast-paced games that demand quick reflexes.

Yes, fighting games are great, but using a keyboard and mouse works better for platformers and flight sims.
