I'm longing to relive those days with The Settlers and hope they bring back a fresh version for modern hardware. Anyone have suggestions for similar strategy titles? I miss the classic feel and want something contemporary that delivers the same satisfaction. Let's get this nostalgia rolling!

That's an interesting reflection. It's been a while since you've played it.

I really put in a lot of time playing Settlers 4 when I was younger. You can still find the box somewhere. The closest match to Settlers I remember is Banished, though it lacks the distinctive cartoon style that set Settlers apart.

Civ works well across most versions I've tried, having played every one. It's not a big deal that Civ 6 feels different from the others.

If you like the game for mechanics, who cares about graphics? Could be GOG.com's ad I have disc version of Settlers 3 I know isn't working properly on Win7 (graphical bugs), but I bought Settlers II from GOG.com long time ago if I ever were needing some game on laptop.

Yes, you can always run the old version in a VM and enjoy the original game.

Settlers 2 stands out as one of the top games ever developed. 3 also performed well, though beyond that it's mostly disappointing. Graphics in Path of Exile are impressive too, and you can exchange items for real money on sites like https://odealo.com/games/path-of-exile/, earning additional income.
