Hey there, friends. I’m facing some trouble with FPS in GTA V lately. It started acting up after I stopped playing for a while and then came back. When I first launched the game, I tried setting it to 'Optimize' in Nvidia GeForce, but that didn’t fix the problem. Even after that, I haven’t been able to get it stable again.
Recently, I was playing through story mode and managed about 53% of it without any hiccups. Over the past week, I’ve been consistently hitting around 60 FPS across all sections. But recently, especially in the last couple of weeks, my frame rate has dropped to between 22 and 35 FPS. I thought maybe updating my system helped—after installing Windows 10 Creative, I got back to 60 FPS once. However, since then it’s been inconsistent.
I’ve been using a high-end graphics card (Intel i7 6800K) with MSI AAfterburner, and even after running a slight overclock, the issue persists. I’ve done several restarts, cleaned up registry files, updated drivers, and checked my GPU settings. The game’s settings are solid—no VSync or anything that would affect performance. It’s just that the bar stays green, not yellow or red.
I completed half of the story mode without ever dropping below 60 FPS, thanks to a small FPS counter in Steam. When I closed the game and opened Task Manager, CPU usage was normal (5-7%), and RAM wasn’t a bottleneck. With the game open, it’s using only a fraction of my GPU power.
I’ve attached some screenshots of my current setup for reference. It seems like the settings I used before the Windows update were still working well. I’m really puzzled—what changed? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Turn off Xbox DVR via registry settings, disable Windows Game Mode, use Safe Mode with DDU, and reinstall the latest nVidia drivers.
In advanced graphics, the frame scaling mode is quite impressive—it now generates 2.5 times the original 3440x1440 resolution. Return it to 1 or off to restore the standard. Adjusting other settings can also help. Feel free to share a screenshot of your current settings with your 1070 if you'd like, showing nearly everything at maximum.
Hey there! It looks like you're having some trouble with your game performance. You tried adjusting the graphics settings and frame rate, but it's still not working as expected. If you could show me a screenshot of your current settings, I'd be happy to help you figure out what's going on. Thanks for sharing your experience!
the biggest impacts came from high resolution shadows in advanced mode and msaa in standard settings. i also noticed v-sync works well, maintaining steady 60fps, but switching it off can boost performance to 100+ fps. with a 1070, the 1080 resolution will likely perform even better.
No worries, buddy. Happy to assist you. Enjoy the game, I'm sure you'll have a great time. I've logged about 550 hours since February 15, 2017.
