I doubt we’ll reach a clear visual limit anytime soon, but it’s possible future tech could change that.

I don't think so! That wall means no more profit for the creators. Computer and technology are like Medicine! There are new things every hour every day and it is unlimited! 4K Resolution we ain't even half of what is coming in the future! And it would be great if the technology was only used for the good.. The human developed the technology and the technology will destroy us.
The wall becomes the human eye. When we can't tell the difference between a game and reality, that's where the boundary lies. Pushing beyond it doesn't make sense. Imagine games that resemble avatars in the distance...
I envision the obstacle for the near future to be what quality individuals are ready to tolerate. I can’t recall exactly where I heard it (a search didn’t help), but there’s a pattern about how realistic a game appears and its reception tied to a chart showing public reluctance toward games that seem too lifelike without authenticity. I suspect this mainly concerned parents and conservatives believing gaming promotes violence, though I’m not sure. I also heard about it some time ago—it focused on how resistance drops as you push harder against the barrier, so eventually realism won’t matter and people will simply accept it.
I believe we're nearing a stage where models, textures, and resolutions start showing less visual impact compared to resource usage. I think developers should prioritize enhancing physics and AI. More interactive, destructible environments and smarter AI would be areas where they should focus more effort. Imagine the excitement of the next GTA featuring realistic crash physics!
