I don't understand which component to upgrade for higher FPS.
Hello,
I enjoy playing Esport FPS titles such as CS2, R6, and others. I treat these games with great care and aim to get the most out of my new DELL monitor, a 24.5 inch 360 Hz model.
Here are my specifications:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 4.7 GHz, 6-core processor
- CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper H412R, 34.1 CFM
- Motherboard: MSI PRO B650M-P Micro ATX AM5
- Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB), DDR5-5600 CL36
- Storage: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVMe SSD
- Video Card: Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 7900 XT 20 GB
- Case: Cooler Master 690 III ATX Mid Tower
- Power Supply: Corsair RM750e (2023), 750 W, 80+ Gold certified, fully modular ATX
- Monitor: Dell Alienware AW2523HF, 24.5" 1920 x 1080, 360 Hz
My problem is experiencing frame drops during gameplay. Even at medium to low settings for CS2, my FPS fluctuates between 380 and 200, which is quite noticeable and distracting while I'm trying to perform well. In R6 (low resolution 1920x1080p), my FPS is around 300, which is more stable but still not ideal. For my main game, CS2, I’m curious if there are any upgrades I could make to improve performance without changing the GPU.
Please let me know your thoughts—I’d prefer not to upgrade the graphics card unless absolutely necessary. If you have any suggestions, I’d appreciate it!
Sorry i don't know what you mean. Did you look at the link? Scroll down to cs2, there's an minimum fps increase of around 100fps compared to 7600x.
9800x3D offers a higher minimum FPS. Because the graphics card relies on CPU instructions for rendering, its speed is limited by the CPU's capabilities. A capable CPU with ample memory is a solid foundation. The 7600x falls short in meeting expectations, though its RAM speed could still support further improvements. AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Review: The New Gaming CPU King comes with 3D V-Cache technology and improved thermal management. It stands out as the top CPU since the 7800X3D, offering significant upgrades. For best results, consider pairing it with 6000 CL30 RAM, which is ideal for this model. Expect a noticeable boost in FPS minimums, though not as substantial as a CPU upgrade. The 9800x3D provides a solid starting point, especially if you plan to move into higher performance tiers later.
Returns start to decline after 120, so lowering the monitor setting to 240 or lower would improve both comfort and power costs. A mere 4ms reduction in frame latency won’t make a noticeable difference since your internet speed likely has much higher latency. The main issue remains your connection’s slow response time. An ideal ping is around 20ms, but achieving that with the current refresh rate and input delay requires about 120Hz and 12.5 seconds of lag.
There are a few considerations to keep in mind. It might be beneficial to upgrade to a more powerful CPU if you plan to maintain 1080P without limits. I believe establishing a frame cap and setting achievable "competitive" rates will help. Additionally, regarding your monitor, I haven't checked the specifications but I'm curious if it truly supports the Free Sync features that would work well with your AMD graphics card.
You already have a solid setup. I upgraded the video card in my 9700k system to a 4090 from a 1080ti. The biggest improvement I noticed was a 50% boost in FPS, but that was at 1440p. With your current rig, I think a 4090 would bring about a much larger increase in FPS compared to what I experience now.
