I don't understand what's happening.
I recently switched from Haswell to the new i5-13400f with an ASRock B760M steel legend and 16GB of ADATA 4800mhz DDR5 RAM. My power supply is around two years old, a Seasonic 650W Core GM-650, and everything was fresh installed. However, I've experienced random game crashes, BSODs, freezes, black screens with strange colors, and slow restarts. On EventViewer, I consistently see kernel 41 errors whenever this happens. CPU temperatures have reached a high of 69°C during games, while the GPU (RTX 2060) stays around 80°C. I discovered my BIOS was an older version but updated it to the latest without issues. I've run DISM and SFC scans, but I'm unsure if my PSU or GPU is failing. The new hardware seems to be working fine, except for certain games like Valorant and Apex Legends. My browser and Discord have closed unexpectedly, and I've tried stress tests and long benchmarks without issues. Performance is decent now. Should I clear everything and try again? I'm really confused.
When a manufacturer releases firmware, bios, or vBios updates, it indicates they've found and resolved issues or added features. If something wasn't necessary, it wouldn't exist. This leads to more nVidia GPUs with DisplayID bugs, older cards not supporting resizable BAR, no improvements for newer hardware, and so on. My take is, I'll keep encouraging people to upgrade their bios, firmwares, and vBios.
Wouldn't you believe if the maker had posted an update for their cards vBIOS that wasn't listed on their site? Your approach seems to add another chance for something to go wrong. If it truly was needed, it should appear on the cards support page or Nvidia's official support site, not here. Just because a newer version of a card BIOS exists doesn't guarantee fixes either—you're jumping to conclusions. Nvidia has indeed provided BIOS updates before, but they've always been available directly on their own website, not via third-party repositories.
I'm testing the vbios update, but it seems it didn't trigger anything because it told me I don't need it. Regarding fan speeds, I'm considering adjusting them with afterburner, though it's surprising since I already have solid FPS and the game usually freezes at 200+ or over 100fps in Apex. I'm also unsure if browser issues or Discord restarting during typing are connected.
The system encountered a failure during boot caused by a hard drive issue.
