Yesterday I was assembling my first PC. I was nervous about inserting the CPU since I didn’t want to damage the pins (it’s an R5 3600). When I put it in, the latch clicked and I heard a faint crunch. I panicked and pulled out the CPU right away. I checked the pins and everything seemed fine. After reinserting it into the motherboard, it fit perfectly without any issues. Please let me know you weren’t harmed. Thanks!

Inspect the socket carefully and verify that no debris is present. If all pins appear intact and undamaged, proceed confidently. The issue might have been caused by a small object beneath the latch arm.

It’s a brand-new, unused socket with both Intel and AMD. You’ll hear a slight crunching noise as it starts up. Initially, only plastic and moving mechanical components will be audible. As long as there are no broken pins or obvious damage, everything looks good.
