You want to bring your 2009 Sony Vaio back to life as an on-the-go internet browser. It’s taking a bit longer than expected to launch Chrome, and you’re unsure how to get Ubuntu installed. The laptop has the original HDD and upgraded RAM (4 GB instead of 2). Someone can guide you through the process.

Use Rufus to convert the .iso file and transfer it to a USB drive. Insert the USB into your laptop. Access the BIOS settings and start the installation process. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Would you like to operate it together with Windows or independently?

Check if you want to remove the existing Windows version before proceeding.

There are several tutorials on the Ubuntu website that can assist you in beginning: installing Ubuntu on a USB drive, booting from it, and navigating the installation steps. Running through the process is straightforward and user-friendly.

You can adjust the options within the installer to save or remove them.

It takes some time to adjust. I’ve got a useful hint. When installing an app, it will prompt for a password each time. It opens the terminal, so you’ll need to enter it yourself. The cool part is it doesn’t show your password as you type—just type it in and press enter. That’s a bit of a strange Ubuntu quirk.
