Integration inside the CPU provides 24 lanes with 20 usable, while the chipset integration offers 4 lanes. There are only two M2 slots available; you can install a third NVMe using a PCIe adapter. If placed in the lower bottom slot, both drives will share the same lanes from the chipset. However, you can potentially split your X16 from the GPU slot to an x8x8 slot in BIOS, using the second CPU slot—this seems possible on your X570 Aorus Pro. The GPU will run on PCIe 4 x8 only, but performance won’t be affected if it’s not a 4090.

Adapter isn't needed. This board includes three M.2 ports. One CPU is installed, two chipsets are present. The reference might have been about the 980 Pro, not specifically the 1TB which could be the default. Alternatively, there might be a discount on the 1TB version.
