Hi, I've had this gaming laptop sitting around for about six months, and when I finally decided to use it again, I realized I had forgotten my Windows login password. Thinking I could just reinstall Windows since there weren't any important files left, I downloaded the Windows 11 installer from the Microsoft website onto a USB stick. After restarting the laptop and pressing the boot menu key, I entered the system and saw all the hard drives listed, but none of them appeared even though Windows was installed and locked with a password. So I removed the SSD from the laptop and connected it to an M.2 SSD adapter using a USB-C port. When I tried to boot on another PC, the drive was locked with the "MY PC" icon. I formatted it with NTFS and it worked perfectly as a storage device. I then plugged it back into my laptop and went through the Windows installation process, but no drives showed up in the boot menu.
Later, I tried using another older SSD that came pre-installed with Windows 11 on it. It worked fine for other laptops, but this PC kept encountering errors during startup and eventually failed, forcing me to turn off the laptop.
It seems something is preventing the PC from recognizing the drives or installing Windows properly. I've converted the SSD to GPT format, which helped load it using the USB-C adapter, and my desktop PC can detect the drive and transfer files. However, the laptop still can't see it. I'm not sure if EFI files are blocking the installation, since I can't use another SSD either and none of them appear. The BIOS does detect the drive, but Windows install doesn't.
What should I do so my laptop can properly identify the drives?
I have more unused SSDs I could try installing Windows on, but if they don't show up, it's becoming quite difficult. Anyone have any advice on how to resolve this issue?
