At my internship, I installed Chrome and received a notification suggesting Safari. Why would Apple make this change? I’ve long criticized Microsoft for their Edge pop-ups.

They, similar to Microsoft, aim to encourage you to use their own browser rather than a rival's. Not particularly unexpected.

I understand, but what I appreciate most about macOS is its lack of annoying pop-ups. Why are they altering that?

It was just a basic alert, nothing like a popup. At the same time, Microsoft is working on a full-screen popup during browser installations, which makes it seem almost insignificant.
