Hi guys
I bought a used Nvidia Gtx 560 ti and I’m not sure if I should overclock it. I had a Radeon 6770 OCed before and it worked well. I worry my PSU might fail.
My specs are: AMD Athlon X3 450 3.2Ghz OCed to 3.6Ghz.
Asrock 970 Extreme4
450W PSU 80+ gold
GTX 560 Ti
2 cooling fans
2 500GB 2.5" HDD
Wireless card
8GB corsair RAM.
According to PC part picker my rig uses 414W. My CPU is already OCed, so it should be around 430W. Can I overclock the GPU too? Or should I bring back my CPU to stock speeds and undervolt it?
Also, I tried unlocking the 4th core but it seems my X3 doesn’t have one... strange.

1920x1080 yes, one more thing, i took a case fan out of my old dell pc but the wire is way too short and only reaches the PWR_fan but not the CHA_fan which is on the other side on the mobo. Do you recommend placing the rear fan as the side fan or just plug it in the PWR_fan at the back of the pc?
Actually, I recommend getting a proper fan for your case. But if you must use the fan from the Dell case (and it has a compatible connector and wired the same), use it as a rear fan. Hot air rises and will be pulled out near the upper reaches of the case. Besides, using as a side fan means you have to remember it is there everytime you remove the side panel or you'll snap the wires.
The PWR header is fine to use. It just has no...

The GTX 560 Ti typically needs a 500W power supply or more. It seems you're experiencing maximum load when both the CPU and GPU are heavily used. Could you tell me the brand and model of the 450W Gold PSU? I'll look up its specifications.

PSU is an amazon super flower 450W 80+Gold.
I reset my CPU to stock speeds now.
There's something called turbo UCC when i load up the BIOS. The I turn it on, my PC shuts down, turns on again then shuts down again. I press the power button and eventually it boots up with UCC enabled. But the 4th core wont unlock though. It wont detect the 4th core with UCC enabled or not.

The
Super Flower Golden Green 450W
is an excellent small PSU. With its 444W+12v rail and VRM regulating, it is as strong as a good, solid 500W. So in this case, you are safe. I would not have any qualms OC'ing the GPU with that PSU.
As to the disabled 4th core, it sounds to me like its simply a matter of the core being defective. That's why it was disabled unfortunately. Too bad. The extra core would make a difference in today's games. Your motherboard can handle some much stronger CPUs. If you can't afford to upgrade to a new platform altogether, then I would start saving for a faster CPU next, followed by an even better gfx card.
UCC =
Unlock CPU Core
Make sure you have OC Mode set to manual instead of auto in BIOS. Otherwise UCC may try to OC when it unlocks. That may be what is causing the bootup problem. But it sounds like a bad core.

Is it still above 450W? I reduced my CPU speed to 2.8GHz and lowered its voltage from 1.4 to 1.2. Will that work if I fully overclock the GPU now? Also, I don’t have money for a build—I actually got the PC for free and the GTX for €20.

I changed my GPU settings to 3.6ghz at 1.45V, set it to 980mhz core, 2200 memory at 1.1V. Now I'm getting 80fps with 1440p and ultra graphics using Heaven 4.0.

I had the GPU OCed at 1.2Ghz which provided 87fps at those configurations but I experienced a driver BSOD an hour later. These settings seem acceptable for me. I won't unlock the fourth core, as my PSU can't manage it.

It's still over 450W, isn't it? ...
Yes, the PSU is rated for 450W. The +12V rail is the most critical one and must support the highest capacity among all rails. It manages heavy components such as the CPU, GPU, drive motors, fan motors, etc. That's why you should always check the +12V rating when purchasing a PSU for gaming.

I reached a final speed of 3.7ghz on the CPU, with the GPU at 980mhz, and everything functions well! Performance is up by 60fps at 1080p ultra settings, with more than 10 fps improvement.
