As a dedicated Tomb Raider enthusiast (having played every installment), I recently shared my thoughts on the Xbox exclusivity situation. *This piece originated from my blog, where you can find the polished version with images!* In 2013, the reboot of the iconic series stood out, surpassing titles like Bioshock Infinite and The Last of Us for my 2013 awards. It aimed to revive Uncharted’s legacy in 2007, delivering action, stealth, stunning graphics, and engaging gameplay—all polished for PC. While it lacked the narrative complexity of Infinite or the emotional depth of The Last of Us, it offered a solid story that connected players to Lara in new ways. Rhianna Pratchett contributed sharp writing, portraying her as a strong, intelligent character beyond her usual role.
The future seemed promising with plans for sequels and a refined port for Xbox One and PS4. However, the announcement of a timed exclusivity sparked backlash. Square Enix’s commitment to low-spec PCs and even supporting older Windows versions was commendable, but the shift to Xbox One only alienated many fans. The delayed Definitive Edition release and subsequent announcement of an Xbox 360 port further fueled frustration.
Despite these issues, Crystal Dynamics had a solid foundation, and the upcoming reboot offered hope. Yet, when Square shifted focus to Xbox One exclusives, it appeared they prioritized market strategy over fan inclusivity. The situation raised concerns about whether future titles would be limited to fewer platforms or if polish and innovation would suffer.
Looking ahead, with a release date in December 2015, the question remains: will Lara’s journey truly shine, or will her abilities remain unchanged? The anticipation is high, but the timeline feels tight. For now, I’m hopeful that the developers will balance quality with accessibility, ensuring this reboot delivers more than just nostalgia.
Great content. These competition battles hurt the sector; creators should aim for the broadest reach possible on various channels.
It just means they won't receive my payment until the limits are removed—it's really absurd
I'm still upset about this. I bought the first title on PS3 and PC, and I want to do the same again for the second one. It would be better if it wasn't exclusive from the start, but it wasn't. If I have to wait a year or two just to get or play it, I won't care! They won't get my money back at all.
