I mistakenly uploaded that earlier, before finishing typing. The patch file triggered unexpected downloads to my PC, though my files were safe before I wiped the drive. My external drives appear to be the only ones affected, with many copies of the note.

I meant to explain this to you, but since you're a student, you'll likely receive around 60% off Creative Cloud. When you begin college, chances are you might get it for free based on your program, or if not, it could be cheaper than Adobe products. I recognize that "pirated" software has its drawbacks, but the same factors that attract people to it also make them targets for exploitation. Many of these items cause AV alerts due to false positives in processes like CD cracking, which often leads users to ignore warnings, making it easier for malicious content to slip through.

I attempted to access the student edition, but it seems I’m not qualified. Currently, I won’t be pursuing higher education.

You only need to forward a copy of a student ID or report card. The guidelines are available on the site.

Your storage is packed with Black Friday clashes? These are the clips you're making? Protecting your gear means getting your programs legit or facing malware threats. Stay safe online.

I need to use my parents' card and settle the debt because mine is no longer valid, but I'll attempt this tonight.

This was essentially my strategy. Once I manage to decrypt the files—assuming I can locate a viable solution—I’ll completely wipe both my PC and Mac drives, reinstall the operating system and all installed programs. I’m curious whether this process will fully eliminate the threat, or if additional steps are necessary. My biggest worry is that even a small residue of the virus could propagate across my network or compromise my accounts.

I noticed something that seems promising. https://myspybot.com/gandcrab-5-1/ The main point is confirming the ransomware is completely removed. Even if you think you've deleted it, it could still be hiding. Another thing to consider is tools like data recovery pro that take advantage of weaknesses in ransomware to retrieve files. It's also important to note the ransomware has advanced to version 5.1, which might be due to issues in previous updates.
