I downloaded an Oblivion mod and had trouble installing it repeatedly. I thought the file might be corrupt, so I tried deleting it by opening it in another program. After closing MO2 and the browser, it still wouldn't delete. Restarting the computer didn't help either. When I accessed the file, it kept showing "access denied." I attempted to move the file and even tried downloading it to a different folder or drive, but the problem persisted. I now have three copies of this mod, and I can't delete any of them. There aren't many solutions online that worked for me. I followed the instructions about fixing %TEMP% settings, but nothing changed. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Finishing up with Malwarebytes allowed me to remove it, even though it wasn’t open when I restarted and the problem persisted. Still, once I installed the mod, the same issue returned. The task manager indicates Malwarebytes isn’t running.

The size of the actual file can be substantial, and it might require over a minute to fully examine it.

Another method to remove files is through the PowerShell command "Remove-Item".
FYI: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/powers...rshell-7.5
Target the unwanted file using its specific path, filename, and type.
= = = =
Noted:
"Once I download the mod, the same problem reappears."
Check Task Manager > Startup and Task Scheduler for any updates after installing and running the mod.
Possible causes include processes launched at startup or triggered by Task Scheduler that interfere...
Just a few thoughts.

If you haven't managed it yet, you might attempt safe mode by pressing networking shift plus delete or use Trend Micro's feature to delete on reboot. I believe the tool is still available for download and use.

It was just around 300mb, and I was attempting it for about 15 minutes initially before restarting. Now I’m not experiencing the problem anymore, so I have no idea what happened.

In the event it occurs again, start the Windows installation media and go to the command prompt. Files can be removed there since there will be no active connections.

Well I shouldn't have said delete as I need to actually install these mods. Sadly Now that I got around to working on Oblivion again I'm experiencing the issue with a completely different Oblivion mod. But I have no clue what is keeping these files in use. Unless there's a way in task manage to specifically see what programs is accessing it I got nothing. I'm closing out of my browser and mod manager and they're not running in task manager. But I still can't open or delete the file. Eventually it'll just disappear on it's own. But I've downloaded plenty of zip and rar files lately too with absolutely no issue. For some reason it's only some 7z files
