I can use my controller to switch away from the game when I need to do something else.
I don't know where to put this post... Basically, while gaming in windowed mode (for 16:9 on a 21:9 screen)... Using a controller and randomly my inputs aren't working anymore. It feels like I've accidentally moved away from the game and I have to click back into the window to continue. This happens in both Dead by Daylight and now Evil Dead. It doesn't happen in Friday the 13th. Not sure if it's a problem with the game engine or just a common glitch. Would you help me figure out how to stop this from happening?
Hi Barty, what specific model of controller is it? Have you tried using this app called JOYToKey or Joy2Key? This program lets PC games act like they use a keyboard and mouse instead of a real one so your joysticks work on Windows apps and online games. When you press buttons or move the sticks on the controllers, it changes those actions into text for the game. That way the app runs just right as if a physical keyboard and mouse were connected. Anyway, I don't use any controller to play games anymore, but for Dead by Daylight I heard something about Big Picture Mode that might help. You could try turning on big-picture mode in Steam; this makes sure the controller shows up properly (maybe check your controller settings too). If you have the Steam version, maybe you'll figure it out from there. But I'm not 100% certain anyway.
Thanks MM! I haven't tried any extra software because all three games already have built-in controller support. The problem only shows up when the game is full screen or in ultrawide mode, though. Every one of them misses real 21:9 support, so you get squished into a smaller screen. *DbD added 16:9 support inside the game that has 21:9 native, and the issue seems fixed now. It might be something about windowed mode or maybe taking focus away. I'm just guessing.
Ah okay, thanks for the update. I didn't know DbD added proper support though. But anyways, I really don't have any concrete clue as to why this is happening only in Windowed mode. BTW, I'm also inclined to assume that it could be a game engine, or some optimization/compatibility issue (when run in windowed mode). Maybe others who play those 2 games with a controller might have a solution for this, or some workaround. Sorry I couldn't help much though, lol.
