Hi everyone. I’m just starting with Linux. I’ve experimented with Linux Mint Cinnemon Edition and Manjaro KDE Plasma. I watched a video about NixOS KDE Plasma and found it very reliable for updating software and the OS itself. Now my question: I recently built a new computer. Here are its main specs: Asus Prime B650-Plus motherboard, AMD Ryzen 7 7700 CPU, 32GB DDR5 memory, Radeon RX 6800 Corsair, mechanical keyboard, LG Hero 403 mouse, Corsair 2T SSD, PCIe 5.0, Samsung 2T SSD, PCIe 4.0. I heard previously that I needed to install Windows before installing any Linux distribution. After flashing a Samsung T5 removable SSD with Balena Etcher and even the Corsair SSD, my computer still boots into Windows. In BIOS I can’t see the Samsung T5 or Corsair SSD as bootable options—only Windows Boot Manager appears. What went wrong?

Windows will take precedence over any Linux bootloader. It appears the boot sequence automatically selects the installed disk first. During startup, a "boot menu" or "one-time boot" choice should appear on the BIOS screen. I’m not sure how typical ASUS EFI configurations look these days, especially with most MSI boards in use. Often you can press f10 or f11 to open the boot menu and locate your installation SSD there.

Updated the BIOS helped, but the Samsung T5 still wasn't detected. I tried an SD card, which also didn’t work, so I used my old 8GB USB key. The installation of NixOS went smoothly now. However, when I start the computer, there’s no boot menu, making it impossible to switch between NixOS and Windows 10. I’m also working on customizing the desktop, aiming to enlarge the buttons at the top of each window (like maximize, close, etc.).

Fast Boot was activated in the BIOS. Did you set up your desktop environment with KDE Plasma or Gnome?

I also added Bottles and Lutris, and I'm allowed to set up Battle.net on both. I downloaded the needed packages on Bottles and adjusted a few settings, but it still won't install properly. It freezes during the Agent installation and then crashes. I'm not sure what to do next.
