HI! Your issue sounds tricky but fixable. The drop from 120 FPS to around 80 and occasional lows to 55 suggest a potential bottleneck. Based on your specs, the RAM (16GB) seems sufficient, so the problem might lie elsewhere. Check for GPU driver updates, ensure your CPU is compatible with the game, and verify that your motherboard supports the RTX 3090. Upgrading to a faster SSD or checking power delivery could also help. Let me know what you find!
Have you looked at your GPU temperatures as well? If they were normal during the first few hours and stayed steady, that’s where I began. I have 16GB of RAM, which seems adequate, but if you plan to run more demanding games, I’d consider increasing it. Also, note that the RTX 30 series has had heat-related issues before—there’s a reference somewhere, though I can’t locate it.
I didn't do anything special, I just pressed afterburner to check the issue, but I don't really follow PC stuff.
I didn't monitor temperatures before; the issue stems from the game running smoothly at over 120 fps for several days, now it struggles to maintain that speed on the ship with no visible problems. There was a peak usage of 14.5GB, but that doesn’t seem to be the cause. How can I properly check temperatures? Is there a dedicated app for this?
I’d prefer a Hardware Monitor, this one looks good for use. https://openhardwaremonitor.org/ I’m mainly interested in watching frame drops, but I read the last two points. I now have another simpler idea beforehand: see if your graphics card was updated just before the problem began. It might be a driver issue—try rolling it back to check if that resolves it. Also look at driver status and temperatures.
I used the app you shared. I played around 45 minutes, beginning at 110fps while on the ship, then lowered to 100fps in-game. It dropped to 65fps shortly after a few minutes. I captured screenshots from that session when it was running at 65fps. I haven't checked the drivers yet.
