I'm making the decision since performance in slots 1 and 3 is slow, while slots 2 and 4 handle it much faster—DDR5 4000 versus 4800 JEDEC.

That's a good observation. For my theory to work, several slots should be affected. It seems like the OP mentioned problems with only one stick being installed, which could mean either both RAM sticks are dead or two slots are damaged. It might be worth checking if the CPU requires a reseat.
