First forum entry, please confirm I'm in the right subforum! This afternoon I switched my iMac OS to macOS Sierra. The update was smooth until my cursor began to slow down and freeze intermittently. Initially assuming it was a mouse issue, I unplugged and plugged it back in, but the problem persisted. It lasted about a minute or two before the iMac restarted repeatedly, looping endlessly. I’m unsure how to resolve this. Thank you if anyone can assist! ---- iMac 2011 21.5 inch

It's frustrating being you. What does dmesg display? You can also share /var/log/system.log.

It's a common issue, often caused by insufficient processor power or limited RAM. I tried installing Sierra on a USB drive and performing a fresh setup to begin with, hoping it would resolve the problem. However, your system could behave differently afterward.

CPU isn't likely the problem because this hasn't happened on my Core 2 Duo Mac. If it's still running on the original 4GB of RAM, that’s probably the cause. These systems are also famous for their slow performance with Windows Blue Springs. Your hard drive could also be contributing. The number of write cycles during OS installation might have pushed things past the point. I’m hoping you have more than the standard 4GB of RAM. Four gigabytes is no longer sufficient and hasn’t been for a while in OS X.

Appreciate the responses, but it turns out it was actually razer synapse. It's working now.
