Just increased my intel core i7 8700k from 3.7GHz to 4.7GHz as suggested. Anyone know how much more I can push before it breaks? I'm using the MSI Z370 Gaming Plus MoBo and have temperature logs. Thanks!

What CPU cooler are you employing?
I'm using the Cryorig H7 QUAD LUMI RGB.
With this model, your maximum is between 4.7 to 48GHz.
Verify your temperatures using Prime95 version 26.6 and AIDA64 stability test. Run the P95 blend test and ensure your CPU stays below 80°C at 4.7GHz. If it remains under 80°C, proceed to 4.8GHz and retest. As long as you stay within that range, Prime95 will handle the load effectively.
Just need to monitor temperatures during overclocking and keep everything under 80°C...

It all hinges on your cooling configuration since heat becomes the main concern as you increase overclock levels. What kind of CPU cooler are you employing?
In typical air-cooling setups with mid-range air coolers, performance should hold around 4.8GHz. Higher-end air coolers can push you to 4.9GHz or 5Ghz, but the top-tier Noctua models will take you beyond that. Once you surpass 5GHz, large 360mm AIOs, water cooling, or delimiting become essential.
Also remember that manual overclocking offers significant advantages because it allows precise control over the CPU's voltage. Exceeding 1.35V is generally not ideal for me, though some suggest 1.4V or lower. You might achieve under 1.3V to 1.35V for a 5GHz boost with experimentation, though results vary depending on the CPU model.
Lastly, replacing my 8700K with a new unit improved temperatures considerably, which is crucial when aiming for a 5GHz overclock.

In short, for any overclock you can achieve, maintaining the CPU below 80°C is essential. Using tests such as AIDA64 and Prime95 version 26.6 helps ensure this, and lowering the CPU's vcore further aids in temperature control.
