He had his PC for about two years and everything was fine. But yesterday he dropped it down a staircase while his dog was in front of him. He tried to restart it and it worked. He watched some YouTube videos and then booted up a game, but the PC shut off after around ten minutes of playtime. Is this due to the mainboard or the CPU or RAM? During the drop, the CPU didn’t get damaged, and he tested the RAM under stress, but the board seems to behave differently. The video shows a benchmark at 8k and 95% with both CPU and GPU running at full capacity without crashing. He played Boneworks or BlackMesa for ten minutes and it always crashed, while his PC barely hit 100% during those games. Normal browsing and Discord usage don’t cause issues. Please help me.

Verify PCIe connections, they’re prone to damage. RAM slots are also at risk. Disassemble everything carefully and reassemble it. It seems we can’t assist further—your PC was dropped during setup.

Reinstall RAM, verify every cable is properly attached, etc.

I understand it's a bit late for your setup. You'll need to order a new mainboard and possibly some RAM or other components. Let me know if you'd like details on the right parts!

Inspect the physical connections. Transfer the GPU to a different slot and observe the results. Also adjust the RAM placement. It might be that the CPU cooler became dislodged, so consider remounting and applying fresh thermal paste. Double-check the game files in Steam to eliminate any conflicts. Feel free to message me if you need assistance with those steps. Right now I can't confirm it's completely failed.

I reassemble the entire system twice since my situation got damaged right after the fall. The tiny piece securing the GPU fell out completely.

It seems the motherboard might be the issue, though it's hard to say for certain without checking. Would you like to bring your friend's PC over and test the PSU and GPU?

Thanks for the update. The case was damaged after the fall, and since the mainboard is a mini ITX model, changing slots isn't possible. I'm checking if the mainboard itself is causing this issue because I can run stress tests without problems but games are affected. Also, I reinstalled all the games since my HDD failed during installation.

It depends on what happens when it restarts—does it boot up or simply power down?

I’d begin by keeping track of everything using logs, like with HWMonitor. This way, when it crashes, I can review the logs to understand what happened. Then compare those logs with stress tests that don’t cause failure, matching them to your gaming sessions before a crash occurred.
