Hi! I purchased a new PC about a year ago, but my old motherboard failed after installation. My Ryzen 7 5800X only works in the second slot, so I need a replacement. I’m unsure what to do since my GPU isn’t performing at its best. Could you suggest the best chipset for this CPU?

What model of board are you using? How many M2 NVME SSDs do you have?

b550 should work just fine with any specific MMO. If it supports PCIe bifurcation and the second X16 can run X8 from the CPU, that’s generally okay. Consider using 99% IPA to clean the X16 slot—dries in about an hour or two—and also wipe the GPU PCIe connector with it. This should clear any dirt that prevents detection, which I’ve noticed before.

I'm still figuring things out, my memory isn't what it used to be. I found this link for a ROG Strix motherboard: https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-st...ing-model/. Right now I only have two HDDs and one SSD, so no M.2 slots. The X8 slot works fine, but my 7800 XT isn't performing at its best—it's still decent but not optimal. It looks a bit odd. From past posts, with my old CPU (Ryzen 1600), the GPU works, but with the 5800X it doesn't. I replaced my CPU and got a new one, but the issue persists. My friend used a new Intel GPU in their system, which worked, so it seems the problem is with my motherboard. I'm thinking about trying the alcohol method, but I don't have that here—just hand sanitizer. Thanks.

You seem to be experiencing a lack of optimal performance, even though it functions correctly. Let's focus on your metrics. What are your current performance figures?

I'm really sorry for the delayed reply—school stuff and dialysis kept me busy over the summer. I thought this was a safe space, but it's a tough question. I just reinstalled Windows, yet I feel like my PC isn't at full performance, especially in some games. Some run about 50/50, others have GPU bottlenecks or the other way around. I remember my old Ryzen 1600 with an 1060 worked better than my new one in those games. It's definitely working, but it's clearly not up to the same level now. I really need a newer, more modern motherboard.

You didn’t need to do anything special—it worked on its own. After a thorough clean, dust removal, and some minor adjustments, everything is functioning properly.
