So my children are using my old computer, https://valid.x86.fr/show_oc.php?id=2759480. Today it looks different: https://valid.x86.fr/esks8y. I've been struggling with Windows 10 for about two to three months now. I really appreciated the video that explained why Nvidia was trying to push older cards. I'm checking if Microsoft is affecting older systems too. I asked M$ but got a meaningless answer—no connection to this or any drugs altering reality! https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...fd88253f1e I installed my old Gigabyte AMD Radeon R7 240 GV-R724OC-2GI REV2.0, wondering if that was the issue. I don't think it's the graphics cards at all; it might be one of the updates shown. https://photos.app.goo.gl/qYFuwDPWf5KSV9Po2 I'm feeling really confused—I can't stop being bombarded with update prompts now. This machine is fine, built in 2008, still running Windows 10 smoothly for over a year and a half! My only thought is to perform a clean reset and test updates again. The computer I'm using has been stable since it was built, no problems at all... even before the Ryzen announcement. I'm hoping to try a fresh start and see if it helps. I wish upgrading were an option! And AMD—since I've relied on them since the Am5x86-P75, I started building back in 1996, and they keep supporting older models for a while! 😅

I don’t believe updates are running long enough. My setup uses an Athlon 64 x2 (stored in the garage since around 2011) and it took roughly two days to complete the updates for Windows 7. With 100 Mbps download speeds and a direct Ethernet connection, things should have been smoother. Are you experiencing any other issues with Windows? I’m having trouble figuring out your problem from your message. Also, Windows 7 probably performed better on that machine than 10, since an Athlon 64 is at the very bottom of Windows 10’s requirements, and hard drives tend to struggle with it. If needed, you can find a cheap Windows 7 key on kinguin.

I'm not sure if it's still installing updates—it stops on a black screen with the Windows logo, nothing else, no spinning dots, and no "updating won't turn off." Yes, I have a 150mbps cox cable. I'm facing problems, but I think the modem is failing again. We're using close to 500GB per month, and something seems to be constantly pulling data. There are three computers, two TVs, two Google Chrome browsers, three cell phones, and two tablets. Even my old PC installs updates quickly! I just rolled back to get back in and had to hurry to try suspending the updates—it downloads so fast! But it's been stuck on that logo screen all night. It installed some updates, and Windows started working again... I need to check what's left and see if my graphics card might have helped.

Here’s a clearer version of your message:

I obtained the Windows 10 keys through some steps, but I accidentally left my laptop behind. My only device received the free Windows 10 version, while it came with Windows 8. The key is stored in the BIOS. I might need to revert to Windows 7. Right now, I’m installing a malware update, and after that, I’ll apply the cumulative update.

Consider changing the network settings to metered mode. It often halts the download of updates. I’m not sure how long this will stop updates, since you only use the PC for short periods.

I’d aim to boot up Windows 7 confidently. It seems more compatible with that hardware. Windows 10 tends to struggle with solid-state drives and often needs more memory and processing power.
