Despite being highly familiar with technology, I struggle with connecting to networks. My issue: my home has roughly 200mbps, but my desktop only gets up to 50mbps. The setup looks like this: a VOIP modem with Ethernet, linked to a TP-Link Load Balance Router TL-ER5120 (I don’t know its purpose, but I’m holding it responsible for the problems), and a LAN port on the load balancer connected to a Netgear 16-port Gigabit switch that feeds all my devices. I removed the router entirely, which increased my desktop download speed to 100mbps—enough for me—but all my wireless APs (two Apple Airport Expresses and one ZYXEL router) lost internet access. I also looked at the Load Balance Router’s settings, but there are no bandwidth caps or restrictions. I need 100mbps on my desktop with all APs working. Please clarify any details and help me resolve this network setup that’s been challenging for years.

Are you wondering if the ZYXEL Wi-Fi router is simply functioning as an access point without routing or DHCP services? It might be interfering with your configuration. 2) Your Wi-Fi speed will generally cap at the lowest available frequency and band, then decrease due to distance and interference. The card in your computer determines the actual performance. 54 Mbps is a typical limit for older N-band devices. 3) You're likely receiving private IP addresses through your TP-Link router. Short version: Give more details about your setup and device specs so we can diagnose the issue.

I can attempt the same action without the ZYXEL AP. I was considering removing it anyway. 2) My desktop lacks Wi-Fi; I'm relying on the built-in network on the EVGA X99 Micro, which should suffice. As mentioned, the device functions properly without the TP-Link load balancer—it's the APs that are the issue. My switch is a Netgear FS116, the APs are TP-Link ER5120 and Apple Airport Express, and I plan to disable the ZYXEL AP temporarily to test without it.

Have you checked direct connections to the modem and confirmed the speeds? Also, why are you opting for a load balancing router instead of a standard one?

Consider checking the load balanced router's configuration and reset it if needed. Also, test the maximum speed by connecting directly with an Ethernet cable through the primary router.
