Hello everyone! I recently purchased a 144Hz G-Sync display and was quite pleased with it. However, when I wanted to record videos for YouTube, things changed. At the time, I had this great setup running smoothly—1080p at 60fps with high bitrate. Now I’m unsure what to do. My games still run perfectly at 144fps, but recording gameplay gives me only 50fps or less, making it look choppy and unwatchable. Even at 720p 30fps, the footage is inconsistent. I’ve tried obs and shadowplay with various settings, but the problem persists. My PC specs are i5-4690K, GTX970, 8GB RAM. I mostly play Overwatch now. I really need help getting back to YouTube!
Are you confirming the recording settings are at 144hz? Keep in mind there might be a default setting at a lower resolution. Also, if I understand correctly, you have three GTX 970 graphics cards in SLI. This could definitely lead to problems with recordings, since SLI isn’t perfect and the software might only record from one GPU.
my i5 is limited to 4,3 ghz, I don’t have a 3 970’s. I figured my system can’t handle a 144hz display and 60 fps recording at once. Keep hoping for more advice thanks!
I clarify that when you mentioned Shadowplay, you were referring to GeForce Experience. It was quite some time ago when they replaced it with the updated setup, which performs much better for me. Do you have the latest GeForce Experience version and the most recent graphics drivers? Your recordings run smoothly at 1080p at 60 FPS on your 5820K/980 build, with no visible impact on frame rate.
I attempted to record using Obs with everything at 60 fps, just like before I upgraded my monitor—it still didn’t work well. The same happened with Shadowplay, this time it caused the game to jump between 60 and 144 fps, making it unplayable. I’ll try using Obs with QuickSync next time. Thanks.
I haven't heard anything about it, so I'll give it a shot. I used to rely on GeForce Experience but it was causing issues, so my drivers weren't up to date. I'm not sure if this will help, but I'll try the alternative shadowplay and see if it works.
After updating the drivers, the system functions much better. There are still some performance concerns, but it’s sufficient for my needs.
