Recently I've noticed my microphone input shifting unexpectedly after switching it in the NVIDIA overlay. It's confusing because I can't rely on the correct input for clipping or recording, and I've checked Windows settings to see if changing my default mic or input settings helps, but there seems to be no clear solution.

Windows tends to set the latest connected gadget as the default, which can cause confusion if you change settings. Using the same USB port for all devices helps maintain consistency. Disable unused sound devices in the Windows control panel to avoid unexpected changes.

I agree. Also turn off the microphone on any devices you don’t use. I usually wear AirPods and have experienced some noise—after disabling the microphone feature, it’s been fine.
