I can assist with handling a hard drive swap. Let me know what you need help with!
Hello, I just completed a hard drive swap and have some questions about cleaning up afterward. Disk 1 holds the new 1TB SSD I installed, while Disk 2 was the old 500GB HDD. The OS was running on Disk 2 before, and I transferred it to Disk 1. After rebooting, the PC now boots from Disk 1—this seems to work, though I wasn’t sure it would. I’m still not entirely confident about what I’m doing. My main concerns are: Can I safely erase Disk 2? Since everything on it was backed up elsewhere and it’s now booting from Disk 1, that should be safe, correct? I just want to make sure. How do I correct the drive names? Previously, there were C and D—C was the boot drive and also where my files resided, while D was the second drive. Now three drives appear in Windows Explorer: D is inaccessible, C contains all my files, and E is Disk 2. Are there any other issues I should notice? Thanks!
Uncertain about the D, but you're right to consider clearing the old hard drive. It's still wise to back up your data, especially if it's valuable. A fresh installation sounds better, though if you've already backed it up, it's probably safe.
