I recently upgraded my motherboard and CPU to a Ryzen 5 2600. I ensured my license was linked to my MS account for future reactivation. I rebuilt the system and performed a clean Windows install, but when I tried to activate Windows and ran the troubleshooter it reported "we weren't able to activate Windows on this device." I then selected the option to change hardware and logged in via my MS account, yet the new Windows version didn’t appear even though I was using the correct Microsoft account. On their website both devices are listed, but not in the troubleshooter results. I don’t want to purchase Windows again. I own a retail copy of Windows 10 Home.

Consider deleting the old device from your MS account to ensure everything works smoothly. Let me know if you need further guidance!

Simply contact Microsoft and clarify the situation. They manage the licensing, and since you own a retail version, they shouldn't face any issues.

You updated the hardware, which is positive, but you also added a new operating system instead of using your previous setup. That’s understandable since it functions well. It makes sense why Microsoft assumes you’re installing a fresh system on a new device. When I changed the motherboard, CPU, and RAM, everything operated smoothly and my system started and activated properly. I’m hoping you can handle phone activation too.
