Chrome sometimes shows a maximum resolution of 1080p for many videos, even though those videos have a 2160p option in other browsers. I tested this on Canary and Chromium, where the 2160p choice didn’t appear. It seems some 4K content appears correctly on Chromium and Firefox but not on Chrome or Canary, while others do show up as 4K across different browsers. The videos you mentioned are a good example of this inconsistency.

It might be a plugin; consider turning it off to test its effect.

HTML is used for web pages, while Flash is a separate technology. Flash supports higher resolutions like 1080p on YouTube, whereas HTML does not.

I realized that shortly after sharing this, but it still wouldn't allow me to turn off HTML 5 for Chrome. I wasn't part of the trial or beta, yet it was used there. I attempted to join the trial and leave it as some users recommended in Google groups did, but nothing happened. Eventually, I found a solution on Google groups: install the Magic Action plugin from the Chrome Web Store, enable "force player type," and under that option select Flash. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detai...ated?hl=en This fixes it. Removing the ffmpegsumo.dll file also triggers Flash in all cases, including embedded videos. Magic Actions don't force Flash Player when videos are included. If that matters to you, just delete the file. I removed it and installed Magic Action because of its useful features.

I was thinking about opening a private window in Chrome without any extensions enabled. Maybe that would let me check if the 4K option appears on all 4K videos. If it doesn’t, I’m not sure how else to proceed. Just a joke—supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

YouTube now limits most channels from uploading 4K content. Frustrating, right?

I attempted it too, even if there was a problem, I mentioned trying it in Chrome Canary, which had a different setup, so it wouldn't have the plugins I was using. The issue was fixed a few posts back, as discussed earlier. I noticed HTML 5 was being forced on Chrome for some reason, despite not being part of the trial. I removed ffmpegsumo.dll from the Chrome folder, which made Chrome use Flash instead, resolving the problem. @Jogostar also shared a simple solution: using the Force Flash player option in the Magic Actions plugin for Chrome, which offers many other helpful features.
