I recently switched back and forth between Windows 11 and Linux Mint on my old laptop (it was once a dual-boot system). But after failing to get a script to work on a Raspberry Pi running its own Linux distribution, I gave up on Linux. Now I just want things to function smoothly without constant troubleshooting. For the Raspberry Pi, I ended up using an extra Windows machine instead, and with my knowledge, I crafted a command-line tool to improve performance. I’m sure I’ll revisit the Pi later for another purpose.

On my main computer, I decided to move from Windows 11 to Windows 10. It felt much more responsive right away. After tweaking settings and applying some group policies to disable features like OneDrive, AI, and web search results in Start, I noticed a noticeable improvement. I also disabled animations and transparency effects, which helped reduce lag—especially on my older business laptop. While Windows 11’s animations were slower and its UI more web-like, I found the transparency effects on Windows 10 smoother.

I realized that sometimes the issue isn’t just the OS but the hardware itself. My computer’s age definitely played a role, as did the underlying performance of Windows 11. I’m keeping my system secure with the latest updates and only getting basic security patches. Overall, Windows 10 feels more natural and native, using more familiar controls. I won’t be upgrading to Windows 11 unless it’s necessary, since I’ve heard many complaints about its extended support. My current setup is stable, and I’m glad my computer is running well.

Happy holidays to everyone!

Yeh, winning 10 is the final genuine Windows OS version, it had its problems, but it's still way better than the chaos that Windows 11 brings... Also, I'm in agreement as long as you're running the updater (waasmedic), it runs smoothly and uses minimal resources. Happy Christmas!

Unfortunately, the only Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC version still offers a full year of complimentary security patches.

It's perfectly fine using 11 LTS IoT. It seems Microsoft intentionally kept it stable, offering essentially a Windows 10 alternative with minor tweaks.

Yes, I have all the necessary OS tools available. Let me know if anything needs adjustment or clarification.

It's just TSC with minimal extra options. Anything missing can be fixed with PowerShell. The best description I have is Windows Datacenter 2022 without the server tools.

Sure, just to clarify—you need to trigger that initial step first...

That's a trivial and very inexpensive task
