I assembled an AM4 setup using an MSI X370 Gaming Plus MOBO, a Ryzen 5 5600 CPU, 32 GB DDR4 RAM at 3200MHz, and a Powercolor AMD 6700X GPU. The system performs smoothly, and after checking the CPU/GPU bottleneck calculator I found a 4% bottleneck—great for me. After nine months it now shows a 32% bottleneck from my CPU. From what I learned, my Mobo only supports PCIe Gen 3 while my GPU is Gen 4, so it’s not reaching its full capacity. Regarding the bottleneck, did I overlook something or has this always been an issue? Lastly, which MOBO options would you suggest in the $100–$150 range? Thanks ahead for your assistance!

Do you feel / see there's a significant decrease in performance when you are using the system ? Yes, you lose like probably around 2-10fps depending on the game. That's the same case also with my 3080. And apparently with 4090 as well Edited July 5, 2024 by Poinkachu

Thanks to everyone, saving money on a new MOBO is definitely a plus—it opens up more funds for my gaming setup! I mentioned this because performance isn’t quite up to expectations. For example, in Fortnite I’m hitting around 1080P FPS and capping at 144FPS, while in Helldivers 2 I’m around 70 Apex with an 110 mark. It might just be my expectations that were a bit high.

Absolutely, you're overlooking a few key points. While I'm not familiar with the exact specs, the overall impression seems reasonable based on what I've seen.

When talking about a game, it’s helpful to mention the graphical options you use as well. This is especially important for settings like RT, FG, DLSS, and FSR, since they can significantly affect performance. Including this info makes it simpler for others to find comparisons or draw conclusions.
