So far, after trying just a few games, the 5800X3D is significantly quicker than my 3900XT during gameplay—so fast it’s almost overwhelming. Crossout jumped from 220-240 fps to 290 fps, and Avorion improved from 60-70 fps in intense fights to 90-110 fps. BeamNG managed 220 fps with a single car on WCUSA, and even with 12 cars plus 12 parked ones it stayed around 70 fps. What’s going on here?

The gap between Zen 2 and Zen 3 is significant, especially considering the addition of X3D. Zen 3 greatly enhances Zen 2 in comparison.

Boosting CPU cache capacity is extremely beneficial. It enables greater data to be kept in the extremely rapid memory section right inside the processor. With a significantly bigger frame buffer, you can store additional frames.

Just got a X3D on Black Friday and I’m hoping for the best—mostly just installing everything, maybe a bit lower than expected. Maybe the lows are better this time? And hopefully, this new motherboard isn’t a total mess (B550M Mortar WiFi). Yeah, I was looking for an Intel, but “Steve” said it’s about as good as a 12900KS for gaming. So I ended up diving into this 3D setup for around $320. My 3600 and especially the B350 seemed to limit me in some cases. I wish I had gotten an Intel with AVX512 though—it would’ve been perfect for PS3 emulation! Still, I’m hoping the X3D will run better than the 3600, more cores, better performance. Probably not much for other tasks, but the 5800X is actually faster in those situations thanks to higher speeds. That’s what I’m worried about—heating up a lot and no way to undervolt? (Wait, what if it really does?) There’s a PBO2 tuner, I think, but I’m not sure how it’ll perform overall. Generally, I don’t like third-party or even manufacturer software—it tends to be pretty awkward if it works at all.

They don’t get too warm, really. If they do, it’s because the cooling system isn’t doing enough. I’m running the PA120SE, which is only about 3-5°C off from my FC140 with X3D at full capacity (143W). That’s quite solid.

My NH U12S might not be enough for you. I'm confused about Noctua too—they keep saying it's complicated, but I'm not sure if that means it's okay or not. Stock specs like RAM and storage are fine, but the stock build feels a bit basic.

When it performs well beyond tough benchmarks, continue using it. Avoid letting Thermalright's influence push you too far.

I just tested it consecutively again at stock levels, except for the FCLK/MEMS which stayed at 1933. Noted a peak of 75c.

yeah, i think my temps are fine... i dont do a lot of benchmarking, its just to check if everything is working how its supposed to, usually i dont run prime95 for longer than 3 minutes for example haha.. too scary! ^but i did notice if the memory is unstable it'll crash within 1-2 minutes so those 3 minutes are more than fine : p yeah, 50-60c while gaming really...dont think i need a better cooler for now... i did think about getting a better case though... i really love my case, airflow is average but certainly not bad at all... but! the issue with it is its really small, there's no space for cable management, getting to the hard drives is a *huge* pain... and maybe a mesh style case would be good for a bit lower temps as well, but seriously the non existing cable management really starts to annoy me so much with this inwin case ... they only needed to make it like 3 cm "wider" and there wouldn't be an issue at all, so stupid! thing is, it really cant be bigger than ~46cm x 25cm which very much limits the choices a lot ...

My cooler is working well. Outside of gaming, my 5900X runs smoothly and looks fast. I’m using its built-in fans at 1600rpm, which isn’t great, but it’s better than nothing. Compared to FC140, PA120 cooling feels decent, though not as strong. Still, it’s a solid choice for CPUs with fewer cores.
